The main point of drinks coasters, also known as beer mats, drip mats and pub coasters, is to prevent marks and stains by absorbing outer moisture from cold drinks. They protect bar tops and tables from water rings and sticky residue that can cause damage. Hot drinks don’t get a chance to leave unsightly rings stains either.
